Shoplifters Unite at L.A. Eateries

L.A. restaurants are used to sticky fingers all over their tables and Squid Ink cataloged some of what goes missing on drunken nights. Barney’s Beanery is among those with oft-vanishing place settings, while Luna Park has lost numbered prints and framed postcards. At Bar Lubitsch, Stone the manager often gives chase on the sidewalk each time their beloved red phone goes missing and weekly orders to replace lost barware cost upwards of $3,000. Entitlement and unrepentant kleptomania seem to be key culprits, but our old friend liquor seems to take the lion’s share of the blame. “People get drunk and they will try to take anything,” says Stone.
