Del's Lemonade on Lincoln Imported from Rhode Island

Del's Lemonade just popped up on Lincoln with perfect timing while summer is still here and Lemonade's Abbot-Kinney opening has been put off (again) at least until Saturday. Del's Italian ices are apparently synonymous with Rhode Island where an immigrant from Naples brought his frozen lemonades to the wee state and with help from his offspring, turned the frozen lemonade into a hit with 45 franchises in 36 states. This Venice locale is the first to grace Cali, with permission from the Rhode Island Company to sell their slushy wares made from real fruit, ice, and sugar. The owners say they get lots of homesick souls from Massachusetts and Rhode Island, but that the year round sun should soon seduce Angelenos, as well as the fact that they contain less calories than a soda. Del's ices come in watermelon, pomegranate, blueberry, grapefruit, and peach, but we like these alcohol-based recipes the best:

Del-a-Rita
1-1/2oz Tequilla
1/2oz Tripple Sec
splash of lime juice
Del's Lemonade

Mix in 16oz pint glass garnish with a lime wheel. Optional, rub rim of glass with lime and dip into Kosher salt.

Del Drop
1-1/2oz Vodka
1/2oz Tripple Sec

1/2oz Amaretto

Myers's Jamaican Dark Rum

Mix Light Rum, Tripple Sec, Amaretto, and Del's in a 16oz pint glass. Top with a floater of Myers's Jamaican Dark Rum

1-1/2oz Citrus Vodka
1/2oz Grenadine
