What to Eat at Oliverio, Soft Open in Avalon Hotel

Oliverio's spaghetti with spicy langoustines

Blue on Blue at the Avalon Hotel has been replaced by Oliverio, now soft-open for Italian brunches, lunches, and dinners from chef Mirko Paderno, formerly of All' Angelo and Cecconi's in West Hollywood. Oliverio is set on a bamboo-enclosed patio with private cabanas around the hotel's pool, with an interior of wooden folding screens, a Cippolino marble bar, and gilt ceramic columns. Avalon's menu of upscale comfort food has been replaced by a serious Italian selection from Paderno, which skews towards regional recipes in selections of various crudo, pizza, handmade pasta, and antipasti. Meat and fish dishes include a Piedmont rib-eye steak, chicken diavola, and a branzino with candied tomatoes, while pastas utilize Manila clams and braised lamb, and a saffron risotto makes the best of pan-seared bone marrow. Paderno is committed to using herbs grown in Avalon's rooftop garden as well as California-raised meats. Paderno's dinner menu at Oliverio is below.
