Tonight’s Hatchi Series dinner at BreadBar fulfills our sweetest childhood fantasies with eight courses of nothing but dessert. The Wilhelmina Wonka running this sugary show is WayLynn Lucas, a former pastry chef at The Bazaar who now works at The Huntley’s Penthouse. Lucas has a menu called “Favorite Childhood Flavors in a Sophisticated New Way” planned this evening and seeing as she’s a Bazaar alum, will be busting out the nitro for a strawberry shortcake with Thai basil and making pastries sweet and strange like in a lemon meringue pie with Pop Rocks or PB&J; beignets. Lucas, who is as easy on the eyes as her food is tough on the teeth, is not a complete stranger to Hatchi, having appeared here with Michael Voltaggio this summer. In other Hatchi news, Eda Vesterman is offering a Russian menu at BreadBar Santa Monica for the next three days. Lucas’ and Vesterman’s full menus are below and reservations for the “Childhood Flavors” dinner can be made at 310-277-3770.
