Of all our local food-related debates, there’s one that’s certain to cause a lot of cross-town beef and conflicting chatter: “What is the best Mexican restaurant in L.A.?” KTLA held its annual viewer-voting contest “The Hot List” to consider this issue, among others, and announced that Zapien’s Salsa Grill and Taqueria in Pico-Rivera has received the town’s top honors. Zapien’s received “Best Mex” nods in years prior but slipped to second place in 2008, causing chef-owner Marco Zapien to posit that maybe “our patrons voted more often this year” and indeed it looks like they offered a discount on food for voting for them. So barring bribes, what do you think is L.A.’s best Mexican restaurant? La Casita Mexicana? Rivera? Huarache Azteca? Do you think Zapien’s deserves their number one spot? Let us know how you feel in our comments.
