A ‘More Traditional’ Gonpachi Expands to Torrance, Open Friday

Torrance will get its own Gonpachi this Friday. The Japanese restaurant that finds a Cali influence infused in its Tsukiji-sourced sushi, robata bar, and hand-pounded soba noodles, has a prominent location in Beverly Hills and the expansion will see it fit into The South Bay’s brand new Miyako Hybrid Hotel. Jesse Duron, a manager at the Torrance Gonpachi tells Grub Street that the menu will be a bigger one than what you find in the 90210 locale. “There’s a much bigger Japanese community here in Torrance, so we’re focusing on having more traditional Japanese options, and since we’re in the hotel, there will be more continental dishes as well.”

The hotel property, true to the “hybrid” in its name, trumpets its focus on sustainability with a solar-fueled electrical system and recycled materials in use, and Gonpachi will do its best to comply by frequenting neighborhood farmer’s markets for fresh ingredients. In addition to an expanded menu, Gonpachi will also have a fireplace lounge, perfect for ditching the downpour this week. Following a grand-opening party on Thursday, Gonpachi Torrance will be open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. 21381 S. Western Ave. Torrance. 310-320-6700.
