California Cooks Wave Goodbye to Trans Fat

Remember back in 2008 when our Governator signed a law that would phase out dangerous trans-fats from being used in California restaurants? Good Bite lets us know those days have finally dawned, as 2010 will usher in a new era of trans-fat-free cooking when the law takes effect on January 1st. This gives restaurants roughly three more weeks to remove the use of these processed fats that are added to oil to increase a food’s shelf life, and a year for the makers of retail baked-goods to comply as well.

California is not necessarily the only state to target trans-fats in its restaurants, but so far is the only one to ban them completely, with nearly 90,000 restaurants needing to comply. Your heart is not the only unit celebrating, as BanTransFat.com reminds us they started just six years ago with an uphill battle to wage against a barely considered additive.
