Eric Greenspan Plans Grilled Cheese Shop and Chinese Christmas Eve

Eric Greenspan
Eric Greenspan

We’re used to chef Eric Greenspan having something original up his sleeves and he’s not disappointing us as a new decade approaches. The L.A. Times gives word that Greenspan is buying the space next to The Foundry for Greenspan’s Grilled Cheese, serving old school soda fountain drinks, soups, and gooey sandwiches. Greenspan’s grilled cheeses are his signature and the short rib with Tallegio helped him win The Grilled Cheese Invitational in 2008.

While Greenspan is stopping short of going full-throttle on the first location of Greenspan’s Gorditas, he tells us he’s also got big Christmas Eve plans, turning The Foundry into a “Greenspan Family Holiday” on December 24th. Traditionalists come warned. The chef’s party will be more Christmas Story than Christmas Carol, as Greenspan’s dinner centers on Chinese food and movie watching.

The chef is preparing a prix-fixe menu of Chinese creations, offered to guests at $39 a person, with dishes like honey walnut shrimp, and pork with pineapple fried rice among eight selections. Two movies will be screened in the restaurant, A Princess Bride at 8:45 and The Big Lebowski at 11. No presents required. The full menu is below.
