You know the routine. An upscale restaurant tries its Dad-like best to be groovy by announcing a taco special, then charges three dollars for each when the trucks that ring it rarely go over a buck and The Gold Room gives them out for free. Not so for modern Mexican Provecho, which is exulting in the new year by offering Chef Gabriel Morales’ tacos for just one dollar each, with two dollar Tecates, and for drunken sailors, three dollar Sam Adams. Morales’ tacos, which come on the menu in hard shell gringo-style and soft traditional, are typically priced around nine dollars and the one-dollar selections will offer choices between shredded steak and chicken, or cumin whipped potatoes. The happy hour embraces four leisurely ones, from 3-7 p.m. on weekdays and 5:30-7:00 p.m. Saturdays. 800 Wilshire Blvd. 213-489-1406.
