Kimchi Khan, the world’s first documentary on kimchi, will stand at the center of Los Angeles’ forthcoming Kimchi Festival. The film comes from director Steve Shin, who also plans a 13-part series, Two Brothers on Kimchi Khan, about the fermented cabbage, as well as a kimchi-making school later in the year. Check out the trailer for Shin’s documentary, which finds chefs, students, and newbies alike discussing the joys, oddities, and importance of the Korean staple, including a star-turn from chef Robert Danhi, who toured Grub Street through Little Saigon last year, and the dude who runs the register at Venice’s Windward Farm. The filmmaker says the project has been 20 years in the making and appears to be a thoughtful look at one of L.A.’s most popular tastes.
