Satoshi Kiyokawa, the sushi chef recently praised by Jonathan Gold for the artful omakase at his Kiyokawa, was jailed for three days at the end of last month due to a case of mistaken identity. Squid Ink spoke with the chef, who explains he was trying his luck in Vegas when his license plates were stolen by a crew of bandits. Not long after these armed thieves robbed three Jack-in-the-Box restaurants in a car that resembled the chef’s own that bore his plates, Kiyokawa was met by police at his restaurant and thrown in the clink on a fugitive from justice warrant. Fortunately for the sushi-obsessed, the chef is back with knife in hand after security videos showing him in Vegas casinos during the time of the crimes were viewed and his good name was cleared.
