Saddle Peak Lodge is jumping on the classic cocktail caboose with the introduction of a Prohibition-era libation menu. To Saddle Peak’s credit, the space actually survived prohibition and according to bartender, okay okay, mixologist Chris Barragan, SPL has cracked the recipe books to concoct cocktails that experienced increased popularity in the days when booze was banned. The restaurant tells us that among the flavors, we’ll find a mint julep made with fresh mint and Brazilian acuar, a Negroni with Hendrick’s Gin, a Papa Hemingway daiquiri and a fresh mint mojito, a Maker’s Mark Manhattan, and a Sazerac with Peychaud’s bitters (since we know where the Angostura ain’t). Many of these drinks come from the 1800’s, but anachronisms aside, they are made with fresh ingredients and come complimented by new edible offerings for seafood lovers and vegetarians who previously had to watch their friends macking on game meats while their stomachs rumbled.
