Osteria Mamma gave us adorable vibes since we first learned Filippo Cortivo and his mother, who’s cooking was the backbone of locally loved Osteria La Buca before the duo departed last fall, were opening their own restaurant. Taking a peek inside, the corner space continues to charm with the themes of family and home, covered in vintage black and white photos, a soft color scheme, and tiny nooks with bistro seating looking out to the street. Mama’s menu is a lesson in simplicity, with everything from pasta and pizza made from scratch, many dishes named for family and friends, and carried by a few standout ingredients in each dish. The recipes are entirely her own originals, with an Italian cheese plate paired with truffle honey and wine jelly, a due gambe chicken leg salad, pear and gorgonzola pizza, a burrata, mushroom, and speck panino, tagliatelle bolognese with veal, pork and sausage, plus tilapia and a NY prime. The recipes, like the room, are rustic and warm, sure to have Cortivo fans rejoicing in this new abode while giving Mozza rejects a cheaper, authentic neighborhood bite nearby.
