Following tasting trials last week where diners filled out questionnaires on the cuisine, Urban Noodle opened yesterday at 4th and Main Downtown in the recently closed Warung Café space. The noodles themselves are not only "urban," but are hand-made with a specialty flour blend by chef Kin Kwok Mu, a Mr. Chow vet with 40 years of international cooking under his apron. BlogDowntown tells us Mu was chosen by co-managers Ada and Arlene Tai, two contributors to "Warung Wednesdays" who sensed the restaurant was closing and tested different chefs' abilities with noodles for this new concept. Mu is throwing his noodles into spicy beef stew, wonton soup, and a beef chow fun. There will also be tofu with edamame, steamed pork dumplings, and pepper and salt chicken wings. Eater shows us a cafeteria-style space of brick walls and exposed ducts and warns you to park with caution in the Old Bank District, while BDTWN promises noodle-themed film screenings over dinner. Urban Noodle is open weekdays for lunch and dinner, and on weekends from 6-10 P.M.
