Where to Eat Like Elton John at The Oscars and Drink in Some Drama

So you’re not going to be eating Wolfgang Puck’s dinner at The Governor’s Ball and the thought of sipping blue Avatarinis doesn’t placate you or your best supporting pals? Where can you eat for a little Hollywood glamour of your own? Find a couple of ideas for eating both before and after this year’s Academy Awards below.

On Oscar night, Santa Monica’s Pourtal is preparing a $25 three-course wine dinner with themed categories. Best Actress will be a first course of champagne, while the “Best Actor” entrée goes to roasted Hudson Valley duck and a red from Scholium Project, and Villalta amarone and a chocolate brownie bar with Godiva chocolate will win dessert’s “Best Picture.” The Academy Awards will be screened and reservations can be made at Pourtal at 310-393-7693.

What about after Oscar night? Los Feliz’ Vermont is serving the same menu that you’d find this Sunday at Elton John’s annual Academy Awards Viewing Party for the rocker’s eponymous AIDS Foundation. John is using Crumble Catering for the party, which L.A. Time’s Daily Dish tells us is co-owned by Vermont’s chef-owner Wayne Elias. A four-course dinner will be served for $45, a portion of which go back to John’s organization, and includes splendid-sounding dishes that should impress Elton’s so-called friends. Spring veggie compote with arugula pesto and red pepper coulis starts the dinner, with risotto Carnaroli with king prawns and saffron licorice and a Tagliata N.Y. steak to follow. A crispy milk chocolate bar with bitter chocolate glaze, meringue sticks, and apricot follows for dessert. Arugula pesto? You mean rocket, man? Reservations can be made with Vermont at 323-661-6163.
