Chef Roger Hayot Joins Angel's Supper Club
Angel's, the Santa Monica supper club and piano bar opened by Temple Bar's founders last July, has a new chef in its kitchen, though he himself is a veteran of L.A.'s dining scene. Roger Hayot, the owner of Beverly Blvd.'s departed Authentic Cafe (which became Terroni in 2008) and author of Dinner at Authentic Cafe, can now be found behind the stoves here. Menus are getting global adjustments at Hayot's hands, which could help shift fans' fascination from extended absinthe-laced happy hours and onto dishes like home made pork chorizo tacos, fried organic brown egg maple glazed pork belly, gourmet burgers, and black mussels in coconut thyme sauce. Hayot, who has German and Moroccan heritage, also offers merguez sausage flatbread and filet skewers to start. We've had both a few good bites and a few good belts at Angel's, and the addition of Hayot should help raise its culinary cred.
