What’s New and Coming to 3rd Street?

Spending a little time with El Carmen before Wednesday sees her sullied by the Cinco de Mayo masses, we spied a few new eats on or coming to Third Street’s restaurant row, east of LaCienega. Crepe Republic opened recently in the intersection’s corner strip-mall, with over 30 different crepes in breakfast, sweet, and savory categories, as well as Design-It-Yourself options, Illy coffee, and fresh fruit smoothies. Crepe Republic added lunch and morning options and feature their full menu online. Slightly eastward, new Burger Kitchen just started beer and wine flights that change each month through the spring and summer. Four hand-chosen beers or wine varietals will come with one of the restaurant’s burgers and an order of fries for $15. And what’s coming next door?

Robata Jin-Ya is under construction next door to Burger Kitchen, as is it’s forthcoming website, though a sign on the door promises it’s coming soon. Blackburn & Sweetzer points out that this is a venture by La Brea Dining, whose own Jin-Ya page shows skewers that look a little more creative than some of the robata floating around town, with whole prawns and fish speared on the spikes. The company appears to be from Tokyo despite the locally-friendly name, and runs restaurants in Japan, giving us hope that they know what they’re doing here.

Speaking of other cities, a nearby banner teases that a location of Lower East Side classic Ratner’s deli might be reborn at Third Street and LaCienega. It sure does seem like they all move to California eventually, right Death & Co? In any case, an exciting promise that we’ll make sure to keep you up-to-date on as an opening materializes.
