L.A. Times Starts a Food Festival

The L.A. Times is starting its own “Celebration of Food and Wine,” coincidentally during the final day of Food & Wine magazine’s own four-day Taste of Beverly Hills. But the paper appears to be going all-out, stocking Paramount’s backlot with multiple stages for cooking demonstrations with Suzanne Goin and Mark Peel, appearances from the food section staff, and 100-plus tasting booths from restaurants and vendors, both homegrown and global. What else?

Russ Parsons will MC talks with chefs, while appearances are promised from the Animal crew, Michael Voltaggio, Ludo Lefebvre–all four of whom are signed onto Food & Wine’s event–and the additions of John Sedlar Rivera and Jimmy Shaw. And you better believe food trucks and liquor suppliers will appear too, as well as a mystery musical headliner that probably has little to do with food, unless it’s Weird Al. Tickets are surprisingly reasonable, no less when compared to Food & Wine’s daily charges, at $55 advance and $65 at the door, or $125 for VIP tastings with over 20 SoCal restaurants and winemakers. A portion of the proceeds will go to Share Our Strength and the Los Angeles Times Family Fund. Get tickets for the September 5th event online.
