Nationalism and Sushi Unite at Chaya Venice
If S. Irene Virbila got you all hot to hit Chaya Venice this Sunday, you should be prepared to encounter these red, white, and
blech blue sushi rolls during the restaurant's holiday beach bash. It's not actually at the beach, but at Chaya, just a short swerve from the sand. They will be busting out a bunch of flag-waving menu items like "stars and stripes" spicy tuna rolls and the tuna and crab tartare on crispy rice cakes pictured above, as well as small plates like lamb albondigas and a Dungeness crab cigar. Ten dollar cocktails will also act proud of their Yankee heritage, with a red, white, and blue martini and "patriotic daiquiris" of dark rum and Hypnotic. The drinks will be served all weekend, while the rolls are only a one-day offer, even if the psychological trauma lingers awhile. The party goes from 4:00 P.M. to closing on July 4th, with reservations recommended at 310-396-1179.
