A tragic shooting this morning outside of Guys and Dolls killed a valet and left two other people wounded. Eater points us to TMZ's footage of the violent incident at the West Hollywood venue, ironically named for the least gangster musical about gangsters of all time, but besieged by problems nonetheless. So, what occurred here early this morning and what's to be the fate of the controversial club?
According to WeHo News, a confrontation, possibly over a stolen chain, spilled onto the street from the club, which is normally closed on Sundays but was hosting an "urban night." A black Rolls-Royce or Bentley rolled by shortly after closing time and sprayed bullets at a crowd hanging outside of Jerry's Deli while the confrontation was brewing, leaving a parking attendant dead and a crowd, including the TMZ cameraman, running for their lives.
The club's record is full of misdeeds, having been cited repeatedly for serving underage drinkers, as well as having a nineteen-year-old girl nearly die in their parking lot. It also hosted a well-publicized probation violation from singer/girlfriend-beater Chris Brown. After being shut down for two weeks for continuing scandals that involved underage drinkers, the club reopened on June 1st under "heightened scrutiny" by authorities. Today's horrifying incident could put a final nail in its coffin, with a community director saying, "they are, in informal terms, on ‘probation’ for other incidences that have occurred there....They have Business License and Conditional Use Permits...and both of those are subject to the discretion of the city.” Meanwhile, a shooter is reported to still be at large, with police requesting information from the public on who owns that very expensive, not so-subtle, vehicle.
