Big news for Third Street bakeries this week, both good and bad. Magnolia snapped back to business yesterday, following a two-week health department closure that landed shortly after the bakery’s opening to packed WeHo crowds and long lines. Feast reports that the construction and design issues have been cleared up, with the cupcake-craze juggernaut announcing “We are officially reopened!” on its website. But unfortunately, there’s also bad news for the street’s pastry scene.
Sadly, the news isn’t so bright for Crysta Wilson’s Kiss My Bundt. Last fall, the owner was struggling to keep her bakery afloat, but fell 55% short of her goal to raise $12,500, Squid Ink reports. Fortunately, L.A. hasn’t seen the last of cookbook author Wilson, who writes on her website,” I’ve made the decision to relocate and restructure the Bakery and Baking Academy so that it makes more economic sense (and cents).” A final fete will be thrown this Sunday at the store so that the neighborhood may kiss Wilson’s bundts goodbye, with tickets available online.
