While not entirely guilt-free on the waist, the desserts showcased at Friday's Savor event, the first one thrown by the sustainability proponents at Parallel Lines, still take a step in a positive direction. The common thread at this sweets show, which took over multiple rooms at Mid-City's Miahaus Studios, were local bakers and confectioners who eschew refined sugars and fake ingredients no one can pronounce for organic, sometimes even vegan, ingredients. From XT Patisserie's in-demand macarons to Frosted's introduction of "hi-top" cupcake sandwiches, sugar highs and surprises were still readily on-hand.
