Em’s Artist Cafe is coming soon to a former location of Tommy’s in Culver City at LaCienega and Washington Blvd. following months of conception and construction. Like the recently opened Paper or Plastik or nearby Industry Cafe and Royal/T, this coffee bar and organic restaurant has art and artists at the front of its agenda. In addition to offering a 24-hour hang for creative types, the restaurant’s website announces intentions to expand into an international restaurant and multi-media corporation, with its own interactive blog complete with “virtual events.” Adding to the atmosphere will be open mics, a stress on social networking and career support, and a drive-in-style theater with daily movies being shown. So, what’s going to be served here?

The menu, viewable online, matches its coffee bar (which opens at 5:00 A.M.) with simple and healthy breakfast items like a burrito with eggs and black beans, granola with fruit, nut and berry scones, berries, yogurt, and made-in-house granola bars. When all of that gets put away at 10:00 A.M., the menu shifts to plates of roasted salmon with tropical salsa, grilled flank steak with chopped tomato, feta, and herb salad, variations on grilled chicken, turkey meatloaf, and salads, vegetarian dishes, and grilled veggie plates, among the clean and fit fare. Sounds great for the figures of would-be actors, while the management promises affordable prices, which is even better for struggling actors’ bank accounts. According to its Facebook, Em’s Artist cafe should be opening soon.
