The Parlor Santa Monica Throws In The Towel

The Parlor in Santa Monica, long at the center of a neighborhood dispute that found residents seeking to limit its hours and quiet its customers, has decided to throw in the towel and close. In August, the bar shuttered its doors to formulate a new game plan, with hopes for a reopening this month. Santa Monica Daily Press reports that the bar opened for one night last Thursday, not long before a City Hall code compliance officer appeared and cited the bar for a bunch of bullshit small violations, including failure to close an upstairs patio. So what did the owners do?

No fools, owners Silas Gaither and Ike Pyun must have seen where this was going and have decided to focus their efforts on the new Parlor location on Melrose. Neighbors even threatened to file criminal charges against the bar over a Facebook comment left by a fan promising "I know it must've been that bitch around the corner. I know where she lives if you want me to come take care of it!!" Clearly, the neighbors and the City Council weren't about to let anything off the hook here, with member Kevin McKeown writing in an email to the neighborhood shortly before the closure, "The city will not allow continued violations. The Parlor is busted."
