Earlier this month, we saw Artichoke’s Heart under construction in the old Murano space. Initially thinking it would be a heart-healthy restaurant, a Grub Street reader enlightens us that this is the L.A. expansion of Mexico’s Corazon de Alcachofa. The restaurant sort of resembles a South-of-the-Border version of those Hillstone restaurants like South Beverly Grill and Houston’s. It’s slightly upscale, while not too stuffy, with a service-oriented vibe and massive menu encompassing everything from wet-aged, wood-grilled steak cuts, seafood, pasta, salads, and soups. The Guadalajara menu makes us hopeful for more Jamon Iberico, manchego, roasted artichokes, fish-of-the-day with ceviches and carpaccios, and a changing selection of blackboard specials. There’s also an indulgent chicharones alcachofa that almost sounds like an alternate rice bowl recipe at Chego. The restaurant has three locations in Mexico, this will be the first to hit the States.
