David Reiss’ A-Frame opens tonight in Culver City with a new menu by Kogi and Chego mastermind Roy Choi. With his second restaurant in 2010, Choi justifies that Food & Wine award by assuredly creating his own original style of California cuisine yet again. A style not rooted in the idealized Southern California, but one that brightens the shadows of its native corners. Encouraging diners to eat the picnic-style, barbecue-in-the-park eats with their hands, he brings together and exalts neighborhood tastes and textures as once seemingly disparate as the crackly-skinned chicken from Pollo a la Brasa, a lonchero’s carne asada torta, Korean buffalo wings, glazed lamb chops with charred ends, theme park churros, and fresh-from-the-pier shellfish, all with a generous scattering of Asian and Mexican accents and perfectly balanced heat. Backed by powerful, obscure tap beers and more Tempranillos than Pinots or Zins, plus a fantastic patio transporting guests through up-lit oaks and strange hoop skirt chandeliers, Choi’s menu offers everyday food that’s fun, daring, and steadily keeping its finger on the pulse of what L.A., the real L.A., loves to eat. Check out A-Frame’s full food and drink menus below.

A-Frame, opens tonight at 12565 Washington Blvd. Culver City. 310-398-7700.
