Bigfoot Brings Food Trucks Back to Abbot-Kinney

Compared to the turmoil facing Hollywood Farmers Market vendors, the lack of food trucks on Abbot-Kinney rates much lower on our list of local, food-related concerns. Following the recent ban on trucks at the monthly Venice event “First Fridays,” Bigfoot Entertainment, a Venice-based production company across from The Brig (unfortunately not the monster truck of the same name), is offering its own parking lot to the mobile caterers to keep them off the streets. The move has the blessing of both the Abbot Kinney Merchant’s Association and the SoCal Mobile Food Vendors Association and seeks to keep everyone happy by retaining a presence for the trucks, while keeping them away from the storefronts that have grown to despise them. Will it work?

Eh, we’ll see if it keeps trash from flowing on the street and if the queuing crowds are any less crazy. In the meantime, these Bigfooters, like many, are seeing dollar-signs in embracing the truckin’ trend, they’re even doing a movie night with the trucks at The Majestic Crest Theater, where you can bring in food truck eats to the theater. We’ll still be sneaking in Sno-Caps. The new Abbot Kinney food truck lot will be tested on Friday, January 7th, when First Friday resumes.
