Rose Bowl

Beef and Bargains for Badgers and Horned Frogs

Three signs that the Rose Bowl and Tournament of Roses Parade are on the horizon: Pasadena’s Colorado Boulevard is lined with stands, fencing and, by noon Friday, whole families camping along the curb; banners hanging at any Barney’s Beanery for whatever teams are playing; and the Lawry’s Beef Bowl. The final tally of meat consumed at the Beverly Hills restaurant this week showed TCU defeating Wisconsin by 670 pounds to 650, which might mean they’ll actually win the Rose Bowl. If the players didn’t collapse already. But what can you other Badgers and Horned Frogs eat?

For everyone not stuffing ridiculous amounts of prime rib in their gullets before the big game, Santa Monica welcomes Rose Bowl fans their own way: with bargains. (Sure, it’s miles from the actual Rose Bowl, but when Midwesterners and such come to town, where do they stay? The beach.) Look for deals at restaurants and bars from now until next week — free margaritas at Border Grill, half-priced apps and cocktails at La Grand Orange, discounts at Zengo and La Sandia — whatever your team colors are.
