Don't do Christmas? Or getting the gift of not having to cook for your brood this year? We have six suggestions for restaurants that will be open and serving on December 25th this year, offering an array of options from shore-side seafood to locavore meats, inspired New American, and refined Italian. Since you've probably done Chinese to death on Christmases pasts, have a look at our user's guide to where you can eat on Christmas Day and what will be served.
At The Peninsula Hotel
9882 South Santa Monica Blvd.
From 11:00-9:00 P.M., chef James Overbaugh has a three-course menu in store here for $105 (kids under 12 get in at $39) that includes "free-flowing" Nicolas Feuillatte champagne (too bad kids under 12 can't drive). Menu items include truffle-butternut gnocchi with Parmigiano Reggiano, free-range Sonoma turkey, and beef bourguignon.
300 S. Doheny Dr.
The Four Seasons' modern Italian restaurant will be open from 10:30 A.M. to 7:30 P.M., offering an Italian-fused Christmas for $95 a person, or $47 for kids 12 and under. Included amongst the scattering of buffet stations are Niman Ranch steak tartare with winter truffles, lobster Benedict with chipotle hollandaise, bourbon-spiced braised Angus short ribs, and a small mountain of desserts. Reservations at 310-860-4000.
42505 Pacific Coast Highway.
If you want to keep Christmas eating very low-key, or simply enjoy the gift of our gorgeous coastline, Neptune's Net will be open all day on December 25th, serving their regular menu of fried or fresh seafood, Most likely there will also be a brigade or two of bikers, who can be your adopted family for the day or come home and join your own. Just make sure there's plenty of beer under the tree!
8555 Beverly Blvd.
Simon Kerry's restaurant at The Sofitel is open from 11:00 A.M.-11:00 P.M., offering a full a la carte menu that includes indulgent Iberico ham, crab-stuffed salmon (!), lobster pot pie, roasted Sonoma duck with butternut squash puree and pomegranate, and a pumpkin buche de noel with meringue mushrooms for dessert, among the many options. And yes, the junk food platter will still be available if you haven't maxed out on Christmas cookies already. Check out the full menu online.
