Closings

Culver City’s Beacon To Close This Sunday

Oh no! Another big bummer of a closing is hitting Culver City this Sunday. After seven years, Asian fusion bistro Beacon, a multiple repeat inclusion on Jonathan Gold’s 99 Essentials and a pioneer that helped pave the way for this stretch of the city to become one of today’s hottest restaurant zones, is calling it quits on January 16th. Aw, man! Now, on to the important question, where will the chef pop-up next and who do we get to blame?

Who do you think? It’s the stupid economy AGAIN. In a press release, husband-and-wife team Kazuto Matsusaka and Vicki Fan Matsusaka, the executive chef and general manager respectively, offer the following statement:

Sharing the success of the restaurant with the neighborhood and making new friends along the way has really made every minute worth it. It’s unfortunate, but these tough economic times have had a heavy impact on our entire industry, and we feel that it is time to move on. We are proud to have contributed to the restaurant boom in Culver City, and are grateful to all our loyal patrons over the years for their support. We look forward to serving LA diners in a different capacity as we move on to new horizons.

Following the closure, the duo will continue to operate catering services under the Beacon name and will be available via email.
