But then our homework was never quite like this: Public School 612, a new gastro-pub concept from the company behind The Grill on the Alley and The Daily Grill, has plans to open early this spring in Downtown next to the latter restaurant on 6th and Flower. Unlike many an area public school, this one has lofty ambitions to educate its attendants. Hallie Beaune, half of The Beer Chicks team (a recent focus of our “L.A. Diet” feature) is consulting on the brews here, while Dante Ascecni is in as executive chef. So what’s cooking?

A Facebook page offers most of the details here, where a menu of twelve to eighteen dishes is planned, possibly featuring the dishes currently being tested, like short ribs braised in beer (a photo shows one using Dragoon’s Irish Stout), croque madame, Thai noodle salad, and mussels in a Hitachino-infused broth, along with artisan cheese plates, a few desserts (more stout floats could be coming) and daily rotating blackboard specials designed with the help of consulting chef Phil Kastel of Daily Grill

The restaurant already has an active Facebook and Twitter page, but we’ll guess they probably won’t be doing the same perved-out scholastic uniforms as The Tilted Kilt.
