A press release landed in our inbox yesterday to confirm Eater’s rumor that chef Andrew Kirschner is leaving Wilshire. Kind of a bummer, we love the combination of his cooking and the restaurant’s late-night happy hour. Kirschner tells Feast he will cook at the Santa Monica restaurant until the end of March, at which point he’s going to open his own restaurant called “Tar & Roses,” which will be housed in the former home of Breadbar Santa Monica. Coming in late summer or early fall, the menu is still in development, but obviously we can expect lots of farmer’s market fare and creative cooking from the Santa Monica native. Meanwhile, general manager Nick Fielding and his staff will run Wilshire, though we suspect they’re looking for someone to fill Kirschner’s food.

Tar & Roses, 602 Santa Monica Blvd. Santa Monica.
