Antonio Mure Grand-Opens 31Ten Tonight on Main Street Santa Monica

Tonight, Ado’s Antonio Mure and business partners including Paolo Cesaro grand-open 31Ten, a new nightlife lounge in the shuttered Santa Monica space that last housed Cache and Hidden, where Cesaro was general manager. The duo is trying to de-douche-ify the nightlife on Main Street by curating the globally-inspired small plates and DJs, and maintaining a sophisticated vibe fit for both raging dance parties and more focused tete a tetes. The former Schwarzenegger-owned Schatzi is now a 5,550-square foot lounge of bare brick with couches, walnut flooring, and one of those retractable roofs, while there is also an outdoor lounge with a fire pit and cabanas (which, just to warn Mure, are usually huge bottle service douche magnets themselves). Food, which given its international spread, sounds scarily a little like Hidden already, is served informally by couch-side, with no formal dining room. What’s cooking here?

From what we read in a press release, it might be Mure, who is named as the executive chef here. Mure has created the menu (see it here) with the help of Roger, pot-stickers, kurobata pork belly, and a daily-changing selection of tacos on the appetizers menu, along with wood-fired pizzas, and main courses of lamb kebab, tuna sliders, petite sole, and seared ahi, with the priciest dish a filet mignon topped with lobster tail and foie for $28 (we’ll have to send surf ‘n turf expert Ron Jeremy to suss that one out). There will also be specialty cocktails along the lines of the ole Moscow Mule, as well as German and Italian beers, and a wine list with Californian and Italian labels. Every Monday, the neighboring cigar shop is holding some sort of “smoke-in” here, as well.

The venue grand-opens tonight (usual operation will be Wednesdays through Saturdays) with partner John Koudsi quoted on the press release as saying, “We see 31Ten becoming a Venice/Santa Monica staple.” Given the short lifespans of Hidden and Cache, we just hope it’s not cursed by the ghost of Governor Arnold’s Hollywood debaucheries past.

31Ten, 3110 Main St. Santa Monica (310) 450-5522.
