Harold Legaux, the son of the couple who founded L.A.’s iconic Creole restaurant Harold & Belle’s, died of pancreatic cancer on Monday at age 61. Legaux co-owned and operated the over forty year-old restaurant since 1979, when he left the burger stand he ran with his wife following his father’s passing. Legaux’s food and legacy are being honored by such fans as Tavis Smiley and Mark Ridley-Thomas, who tells the L.A. Times, “Legaux’s restaurant is more than just a place to eat; it is also a source of community pride.” [LAT]
