ROCU Drops L.A. Restaurant Industry Report Today

The Restaurant Opportunities Center United dropped its big report on the state of L.A.’s restaurant industry today. The good news: “Los Angeles County is home to a vibrant restaurant industry that continues to grow daily.” The bad news: “Many restaurant employers in the Los Angeles area appear to be taking the low road, creating a predominantly low-wage industry where employment, and health and safety laws are frequently violated.” Read about the overtime abuses and safety violations, the poor advancement opportunities, the low wages (some bussers only make $15-20 a night) , the racial inequalities, and the suggestions for improvement yourself in the 85-page document. For those on a time-crunch, there’s even a short executive summary to fit in before you go Valentine’s dining tonight. [ROC United]
