Rolling Stone Restaurant Eyes Soft-Opening At End of February

For a magazine that is published and distributed on a bi-weekly basis, Jann Wenner’s Rolling Stone Restaurant sure seems to have trouble making its deadlines. We originally expected an opening in the summer of 2010, then we were expecting a fall debut, and then, months later, a whole host of rappers and rockers at the American Music Awards got a sneak-peek before the place went dark again. The last word was that February 1st would see the public opening of the project that no one was really crying out for in the first place, and now The Grammy’s have come and gone without Rolling Stone’s after-party participation. After catching wind on Vulture that it could be “a few more months,” we needed to find out what’s really going on with this venture.

We spoke yesterday with a public relations firm representing the restaurant, who told us that the Rolling Stone Restaurant would be debuting much sooner than what we’ve been reading. Right now, a soft-opening is planned for the end of this month, with the grand-opening planned for the middle of March. It might be taking more than a month-and-a-half for this issue to open, but given its size, scope, and the easily impressionable Walk of Fame tourist population, it probably won’t be going anywhere for a while.
