First Look into Steingarten, Open Today in West L.A.

Sausages continue their westward surge today with the opening of Steingarten in West L.A. The new Pico Blvd. restaurant combines game meats, European wurst, and a scattering of creative poultry on a sausage menu that resembles The Counter's, with check boxes to mark your meat, sides, and toppings. Among the many wieners on offer, there is wild boar and berry, Alaskan elk, alligator with pork, chicken and tequila, duck and bacon, rabbit, bison, and venison blueberry, with choices of sauerkraut, onions, and bell peppers. In addition to the sausages, Steingarten features sandwiches made with deer salami and natural chicken schnitzel, plus grass-fed burgers and salads, while a selection of tapas includes German soft pretzel, rosemary marinated quail, braised short ribs with plantains, and pulled pork sliders. And to drink?

You'll find 20 draft beers on tap and 32 bottled in a fridge, while the restaurant is not ignoring the cocktail movement, including ten-dollar drinks like a "Lost in Translation" with tequila, lemon, lime, blackberries, and agave and an "Ode to Frisco" which sounds like an ode to Belgrano with its mix of Fernet, lemon juice, bitters, and simple syrup. Looks like a great new entry onto the Westside, with a little old world European resemblance to nearby Wellsbourne and a hearty menu of choices that could give Wurstkuche Venice strong competition. Check out our slide show of the space and see the full menu online.
