How to Chow Chowder in an Aquarium Without The Guilt

This Saturday, Long Beach’s Aquarium of the Pacific will hold a massive celebration of sustainable seafood. Strangely, the whole thing is going down at the aquarium at the same time that visitors are feasting on a choice of chowder recipes, as it will simultaneously be Sustainable Seafood Day and the “Best of the West” Chowderfest. Smell slightly fishy?

The L.A. Times reports that a number of local restaurants (including Primal Alchemy, Savor, Parker’s Lighthouse, and King’s Fish House) will participate by offering their own takes on chowder, with a host of different forms of seafood taking the starring role, from Dungeness crab and barramundi to artic char. Guests will vote on the chowder of their choice and will also be treated to info-tainment like cooking demos and advice on sustainable seafood practices.

Again, this all goes down while you eat chowder and the aquarium keeps its 50 exhibits open, so basically, don’t look any of the fish in the eye while taking a nibble on their aquatic brethren unless you’re planning on having a really awkward day. [LAT]

Saturday March 12th, 9:00 A.M.-5:00 P.M., 100 Aquarium Way, Long Beach.
