In December, the news hit that Essex Public House was closing after a short run in Hollywood, with the possibility that it could resurface as a re-branded bar and restaurant named Essex. Kris Keith's design firm Spacecraft tells us today that Essex has been wiped off the map and in its place comes Boulevard Tavern from Essex co-owner Hunter Hensley.
Spacecraft's message promises that this is "what Essex should have been," a space with bigger TVs, indoor and outdoor areas, and not quite as dark as its predecessor. Meanwhile, a stripped-down menu will stick to burgers and salads, with everything priced under ten dollars. There's also been a slight shakeup with the beer selection here, with so-called "mainstream" brews on tap and craft beer in the bottle, the first change that has us scratching our head. Boulevard Tavern is currently open, while construction will extend through June during off-hours.
Boulevard Tavern, 6683 Hollywood Blvd. Hollywood. 323-460-9090.
