Catching Up With L.A.'s Best New Chefs

Nobu took the award in 1989

We sometimes get the feeling that the James Beard Awards are just not that into us over in L.A. Fortunately, Food & Wine is much better at keeping our egos stroked, having just named Ricardo Zarate one of the country's best new chefs. Feast reminds us that L.A. has a number of past winners cooking in our midst. Though we might argue that Tom Colicchio isn't exactly one of us, it's still a refreshing reminder to see that definitive L.A. chefs like Josiah Citrin, Suzanne Tracht, Suzanne Goin, Nancy Silverton, Nobu Matsuhisa, Celestino Drago, and Raphael Lunetta were all F&W; award winners, along with recent picks like the Animal boys and Roy Choi.
