Duff Goldman’s Charm City Coming to One of Our Bay Cities

If last summer was all about imported restaurants from New York and NorCal, maybe this next one will be about reality cooking stars setting their roots down on our soil. We already have Gordon Ramsay renting in Hollywood, Michael Symon with his new loft in Venice, and Curtis Stone promising to drop his own restaurant on the city. Today, the L.A. Times reports that Duff Goldman, the star baker from Ace of Cakes, is opening a location of his Charm City Cakes on 19th Street in Santa Monica on June 1.

Not only that, but Goldman is bidding some form of bye-bye to Baltimore, leaving operations to his sous chef there so he can spend a majority of his time at the L.A. branch. The bakery is already taking orders for a June 1 debut, though the new location, like the original, will be by appointment only and cakes won’t be available for purchase on-site. Still, we’re hoping Goldman’s arrival will inspire some Charm City exile to open a nearby place for lake trout. Check out the inspired cakes (and inflated prices) on the store’s website.
