New Gastropub The Rockefeller Should Fit Nicely Into Hermosa Beach

A new gastro-pub called The Rockefeller is under construction on Pier Avenue in Hermosa Beach, with expectations set on a May 20th opening. The project plans to have 24 draft craft beers and sixteen rotating wines, with an emphasis on affordability, with one David Christopher Damon named the head chef. The Rockefeller will serve dinner seven days a week and lunch and brunch on weekends, with a selection of burgers, apps, salads, seafood (prosciutto-wrapped shrimp) and desserts like a farmers berry trifle and apricot toffee cake, all in a space that includes an outdoor patio. But what makes us think this gastro-pub (or possibly gastro-repub) will fit into its environment?

What really has us convinced this place is a sure fit into The South Bay is all the Fox Newsy U.S.A. chest-thumping going on their Facebook page, from the photo of a special forces dude in a Taliban beard with the words “Good job America” to endorsements from Uncle Sam and urgings to “Buy American.” The restaurant’s early tag line appears to be “As American as….” with different endings to the phrase meant to warm your red American blood.

Yes, we have a feeling it will fit just fine around here and could even pull a few of the younger Sean Hannity fans out of Koffee Kart. Look for an opening at the end of the month and for the restaurant’s forthcoming website.

The Rockefeller, 418 - 422 Pier Ave. Hermosa Beach.
