What to Expect at Taste of the Eastside Besides Bad Mustaches and Funny T-Shirts

Next Sunday, May 15th, from 1:00 to 5:00 P.M., the first “Taste of the Eastside” food festival will take place at Barnsdale Art Park. It doesn’t stretch too far past the river except in the case of one Highland Park restaurant, but names aside, it will still offer much more than just another chance to show off those ironic mustaches and expensive thrift store duds. What can you expect?

Restaurants from Silver Lake, Echo P, Atwater Village, Downtown, Los Feliz, and Highland Park are representing with samples of their cuisine and hopefully bringing enough food to keep it from looking like last fall’s Taste of Abbot Kinney Festival. In addition to restaurants like Little Dom’s, Reservoir, and Huarache Azteca, KCRW DJ Garth Trinidad will rock the party (and probably have to keep explaining why his whole set isn’t a retrospective of !!!), a family art workshop will pretend its for actual kiddies and not hipsters who refuse to grow up, Lina Lecaro signs copies of her awesome dive bar book, and Talmadge Lowe of Heirloom LA will hold a VIP cocktail tasting.

As we know by now, first-time food events rarely meet a snag they don’t like, but we’re still heartened by the promise that this will be a fairly green spectacle, seeing as SustainLA is a partner committed to keeping all of your disposable plates from winding up in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. Check out the complete list of participating restaurants online and score your $25 tickets right here.
