The talk of the town over the last week has been mostly about Alberto del Hoyo, the (now former) general manager of the Beverly Hills Hotel, which is being sued for sexual harassment along with Del Hoyo. NBC tells us the former GM helped put The Polo Lounge back on the map, but allegedly had problems when it came to dipping his pen in company ink. In a series of allegations made by five former employees, Del Hoyo routinely intimidated hostesses at the star-studded restaurant and stands accused of fondling them in public. And it gets worse.
The Spaniard allegedly also made a lot of racist comments, calling French employees “frogs,” Mexican employees “wetbacks,” and expressing a dislike for Indians. Naturally, his attorney claims the charges are all false.
Meanwhile, the former employees say a perfect storm of perversion and bone-headed racism pushed many of them out of their positions due to an uncomfortable, “sexually charged” work environment. The hotel itself is accused of trying to cover for Del Hoyo’s inappropriate behavior, causing the property, a sister to the Hotel Bel-Air, to be named in the suit against Del Hoyo and another employee.
