We just received a group email from Earl’s Gourmet Grub, the Mar Vista sandwich maker that started at the neighborhood farmers market before going brick-and-mortar on Venice Blvd. There are a few changes afoot here (none of which, unfortunately, involve bringing the basically ink.sack-sized sandwiches down to ink.sack-sized prices), as the restaurant recently added a tented outdoor patio, new dishes (like burgers and a blue crab breakfast taco) and just started dinner-service three nights each week (Thursday through Saturday) for bison bolognese, eggplant puttanesca, and clams in white wine sauce. They’ve also got a sneaky little plan to boost its three-and-a-half star Yelp rating.

Earl’s explains the scheme to its email subscribers:

We need your help to spread the Earl’s love, and want to return some love to you, our most dedicated followers. This month only: go to Yelp, show the world how much you love us, and we’ll love you back with any one of our new menu items (or an ol’ fave), on us. Just print out your super incredible Yelp review from the interweb, bring it on in to the shop, and we will switch it out for some Gourmet Grub (MUST BE PRINTED). So head to your computers and then head on in to Earl’s!*

Just something to consider when this gourmet sandwich shop suddenly surpasses Providence on Yelp’s “best restaurants” list.
