Thanks to chef Roy Choi and Street Gourmet L.A., The Taste's Saturday night "Taco Tequila Tryst" avoided being a mere selection of what the latter referred to as "gabacherias," with authentic Mex coming from the likes of Antojitos Carmen, Bajamar Seafood, Mariscos Chente, Antojito's Sofiy, and Birreria Flor del Rio, along with a few stalwart spots like Chichen Itza and Guelaguetza representing L.A.'s regional Mexican restaurants. While tacos were in abundance, with everything from MexiKosher's sweetbreads tacos to Kogi classics to a blueberry chicken taco from Worldwide Tacos, the tequila landscape was unfortunately drier than the desert, save for a few scattered shot samples and a bar serving Hornito's, for anyone looking to bid "luego" to their stomach lining. Our favorite taco of the evening was Sofiy's simple and correctly prepared carnitas.
The fellows from Antojitos Carmen ran out of tacos by the time we got to their booth, but were having a good time hanging out.

This African-American-operated taqueria brought blueberry chicken tacos from their Leimert Park store.
Forget natural ingredients, these margaritas and sangrias just aren't very good.

Shrimp ceviche taco.
Made tacos with fresh marlin brought from down south. The Inglewood restaurant confirmed the rumor we reported last week, that this original location is becoming Coni'Seafood.
The first thing we associate with Rick Bayless is jicama and this shrimp ceviche on a jicama tortilla was quite good.
Saw the longest lines through the night for their plump Baja fish tacos.
Birreria Flor del Rio
Prepared a perfect birria taco.
These mini-tacos were another favorite.
Made The Yucatan's slow-roasted pork cochinita pibil for its tacos.
Napa Valley Grille
The next morning, Joseph Gillard was cracking quail eggs to go with pork belly, among the gathered chefs on Rodeo Drive for the Sunday morning event "Fashion Bites Brunch."
Gordon Ramsay at the London Hotel
Had one of Sunday morning's best dishes, with this combination of chicharron, quail egg, and black brioche.
Fig & Olive
We loved its green gazpacho bursting with red peppercorns.
This gazpacho was great, but even greater when it came served by Andre Royo (Bubs on The Wire) whose wife opened Canele.
