Atwater Village’s Golden Road Brewery opened to a big crowd this month, plans a brewpub in November, and is pulling decent A- and B+ ratings from readers of BeerAdvocate for its Point The Way IPA and Golden Road Hefeweizen, respectively. Owner Tony Yanow tells Eater that he’s hoping for a 30 beer-strong portfolio, with some killer new styles of suds in the works, beers that seek to tap the creativity of former Dogfish Head brewer Jon Carpenter and the touch of Speakeasy and Oskar Blues vet Meg Gill. The trio is currently working on a hop-forward Imperial IPA and a “Burning Bush” smoked IPA, which has already been both slammed and praised on BeerAdvocate. Then there’s the other strange brew Yanow has up his sleeves.

Most fascinating is Yanow’s plan for a wheat beer aged in tequila barrels. Yanow says, “As far as I know, I’ve never seen this combination before. I don’t personally love tequila, but I’m dying to taste this beer, based on the smell coming out of the barrels right now.”

Yanow’s team would hardly be the first to age beer in a tequila barrel, but we’re still eager to taste what the crew’s combo of Hefe, oak, agave, and time tastes like.
