This past Saturday, Venice saw the soft-opening of Patricia Tsai’s ChocoVivo, a unique stone-ground, “bean-to-bar” chocolate shop that adheres to traditional methods. Using whole cacao beans sourced from a single grower and ancient stone-grinding methods, Tsai produces small batches of handcrafted bars of dark chocolate, chocolate powder, chocolate butter, and chocolate nibs, with various flavors like walnut and banana, cherries, peppercorns, and almonds, and blueberries and lavender. What else?

Popular at six different farmers market, Tsai, a former accountant who left her job to make her fine product, recently gave a presentation for TED on her philosophy and practices as a chocolate maker. Her tiny new storefront on Abbot Kinney offers retail products and nibbles to snack on, while stumps of cedar serve as seating. An awesome new addition to Abbot Kinney that should fit in nicely.

ChocoVivo, 1504 Abbot Kinney Blvd. Venice.
