Holy heck, here’s huge news! Philadelphia chef Jose Garces is coming to Palm Springs to open a restaurant, the first West Coast expansion for the Garces Restaurant Group. So far, details are slim, but seeing as Garces just opened versions of his Distrito and Jose Garces Trading Company at Arizona’s Drinkwater Hotel, owned by the Sydell Group, owners of Palm Spring’s popular Ace Hotel, we’d venture to guess he could be doing something similar for Sydell in the Southern California desert.

A desk manager at Ace says they know of no plans for a new restaurant, however Sydell recently acquired a Holiday Inn down the road in Palm Springs, paving the way for something to take over its existing restaurant space.

Furthering our detective work, a Garces Group Craigslist search for an F&B; general manager with a strong hotel background indeed sets the stage for one of the region’s sun-blasted hotels to get their gloves on Garces. As Sydell is expanding almost as quickly as Garces (who opened over ten restaurants since 2005), this could bring the chef that much closer to L.A. and New York, where Sydell operates properties as well. Stay tuned as we track Garces’ westward expansion.
