Isla Vista's Silver Greens founder Dion Rottman and nightlife entrepreneur Sky Reiss plan to open a new gastropub on Third Street called 3rd Street Station, with construction to be finished by 2012 and an opening planned not too far behind. New York-raised chef Greg DeMichiel, owner of green caterer EAT, will be leading the kitchen, with cuisine inspired by Rottman's trips to his French mother's hometown. What will you find being served here this winter?
A press release tells us that 3rd Street Station will serve as a melding of the local pub and breezy brasserie, with regional European dishes both adventurous and locally-supplied. Expect appearances from Niman Ranch and Carlsbad Aquafarm for preparations of sous vide short ribs and smoked blond oysters, respectively, while other named dishes include nicoise, pork belly sandwiches, beer battered fish and chips, house-made brat and duck fat fries.
The space, full of dark woods, mixed metals, and natural stone, is being designed by Built Inc. with sidewalk seating and a bit of an Old World train station cafe theme in play. For example, in addition to an old British train clock, there are plans for an arrivals/departures board that spells out daily specials.
And of course, seeing as this is an L.A. restaurant opening, beer and classic cocktails will abound, while ambitions are set to keep this one awake until 2:00 A.M. Third Street parking beware!
